Little explanation needed
Jan describes the working relationship as follows. “At Laurus we deal with large volumes and with processes in which time is a critical factor. Small errors in our processes can have big consequences. We also need to adhere to a long list of rules. So it's good to start by considering the standard possibilities offered by SAP. Sapito supports us not only when we opt for those standard solutions, but also when we have to rely on customised SAP solutions, in which case they draw up the specifications, organise the tests and support the users in the acceptance test and in implementation. They cover the full range of processes. And the great thing is, if they see that there's a better or less expensive alternative then they'll recommend that we go for it - even if it's outside the areas that they cover directly." Gerard adds the following: “We sat down with Sapito to examine the possibilities that SAP could offer Laurus.
They were involved in the set-up right from the start and during the process they translated our wishes into solutions. Now they don't even need much explanation to be able to understand how things link together and to propose solutions.”
More than just ICT experts’er
Gerard's job as ICT process manager involves acting as a bridge between the Laurus organisation and the ICT department for purchasing & marketing and sales. “Sometimes I am more of a project manager, and that's how I got to know Ingo and John", he explains. “Take Ingo, for instance. I know him the best and to me he is the perfect illustration of what Sapito stands for. He's more than just an ICT expert - he's top class. This applies both to his areas of expertise and to the areas linked with them. He identifies problems and gives us feedback. I'm particularly impressed by his ability to explain complex problems in simple and understandable terms. He is currently working on forecasting for the stores.” Gerard describes Ingo as not just a genuine ICT expert, but also the ultimate client manager. “And he takes a pretty broad view of his role.
Recently I lost all the fish from my pond to a hungry heron... only for Ingo to bring me a bowl full of fish from his own pond.”
“The perfect combination of
technical and functional knowledge.”
technical and functional knowledge.”
Distinctive quality
Jan remembers when he first met John. “We came into contact with John after being referred to him. He immediately made a good impression - both knowledgeable and friendly. We had confidence in him right from the start and he didn't let us down. Now, five years on, we still see that perfect combination of functional and technical knowledge. It's a combination that Ingo has too, but few other consultants are able to offer it. When I consider their attitude, knowledge and the structured way in which they arrive at manageable solutions, taking account of the risks involved in management, then their distinctive quality becomes clear.” He also mentions another of John's personal traits: “John moves very freely throughout an organisation. Every day he sits somewhere else, putting in an appearance everywhere. In fact, all of them are all highly dedicated. It's almost as if they are our own internal employees.”
Part of the organisation
Jan explains that Sapito's consultants are not just strong individually. “Despite the high level of knowledge they have, they are true team players. They are part of our organisation. And although I'm used to working with John and Ingo, I wouldn't hesitate to work with any of the other Sapito consultants. That has worked well before - on one occasion John was unavailable, and that's when he introduced me to Ingo.”
